A sandwich made with Merita® Old Fashioned white bread is something worth sharing. Merita Old Fashioned Bread is baked soft, using the finest ingredients. This satisfying bread is made from a rich (old-fashioned) recipe that brings big flavor to all of your favorites. Sliced bread makes whipping up delicious lunches quick and easy so that you can get back to family time. Enjoy bread with the quality and taste you expect from this cherished brand.

In 1901 William Fisch and Herman Malchow started producing breads as Highland Bakery in Birmingham, Alabama. The single retail bakeshop had one horse-and-wagon route. An award known as the MERIT-A award was presented to bakery products with the highest merit. Highland Bakery consistently won the award and displayed the symbol “MERIT-A” on the packages. By mistake, a printer left out the hyphen, and thus, the name MERITA was born.
