Zacapa XO is the ultimate expression of our unique 'Sistema Solera' aging and blending process, which takes place in the mountains of Guatemala. This hands-on process, combining art and tradition, encourages the blending of rums of different ages and personalities so that they may continue to mature in select barrels. This dynamic and artisanal process culminates only after the complexity of aromas and flavors confirm that a unique, mature rum has been created. The Zacapa difference begins with the exclusive use of 'virgin sugar cane' that is created from the first pressing of the sugar cane, which is grown in Southern Guatemala. There is no place better suited to grow sugar cane thanks to its mineral rich volcanic soil and the numerous rivers that nourish the area. The results of this difference in raw materials are noticeable depth in the primary aromas and flavors of Zacapa. Zacapa rums are aged in the cool air of the Guatemalan highlands, 2300 meters above sea level. These conditions allow the rum to mature more slowly in the barrels and obtain exceptionally deep aroma, rich color, and profound flavor. Zacapa XO is a unique balance of complex aromas and flavors resulting from the exclusive blend of reserve rums. We hand select rums aged between 6 and 25 years in our unique 'Sistema Solera'. Older and younger rums are then blended as they age in a sequence of barrels that previously stored robust American whiskeys, delicate Sherries, fine Pedro Ximénez wines, and finished in French oak casks which previously aged Cognac.
